Limewash Over Plaster Walls

Limewash is one of the oldest, most natural wall finishes — and when applied over plaster, it creates a soft, textured aesthetic with beautiful tonal variation. At Deco Plaster Studio, we specialize in hand-brushed lime paint finishes that allow your plaster surfaces to breathe and age gracefully.

Why Choose Limewash?

Limewash vs. Paint vs. Venetian Plaster

Understanding the differences helps you choose the right finish for your project:

Best Applications

Limewash works beautifully in a variety of settings:

Application Process

We apply limewash over properly cured plaster surfaces in 2–4 thin coats, allowing each layer to dry before the next. The first coat is typically absorbed quickly and serves as a primer. Subsequent coats build depth and color intensity. Because limewash is translucent, the final appearance depends on the number of coats, brush technique, and underlying surface — which is why every limewash installation is truly one-of-a-kind.

Maintenance is simple: limewash can be refreshed with an additional coat without stripping or sanding. Minor scuffs and wear blend naturally into the finish over time.

Color and Customization

Limewash is available in a wide range of natural earth tones, from soft whites and warm beiges to deep charcoals and sage greens. We can also create custom color blends to match your design vision. Because the pigment is suspended in the lime itself (rather than applied as a surface layer), the color has a depth and authenticity that painted finishes cannot replicate.
