About Limewash

A wall finish that doesn't look like ordinary paint.

Limewash has been used for centuries for its soft, mineral appearance and the way it changes with light.

Limewash is a mineral-based finish that creates a soft, matte surface with natural tonal variation. Rather than leaving a perfectly uniform film, the application allows the wall to have depth and movement.

The beauty is subtle. From across the room, the finish can feel quiet and almost effortless. Up close, you begin to see the brushwork, variation and layers that give the surface its character.

I develop each application around the room, the existing surface, the color and the amount of movement you want.

Works with natural light

The subtle variation in the finish changes throughout the day as the light moves across the walls.

Applied by hand

The finish is built through hand application, allowing the character of the surface to be controlled rather than looking mechanically uniform.

From the first sample to the finished wall.

The goal is to get the color and character right before the full application begins.

Send photos, dimensions and any information you have about the existing walls and the look you're after.

Develop the color

We determine the direction for color and the amount of variation you're looking for.

Prepare the surface

The existing substrate is evaluated and prepared for the limewash system being used.

Apply the finish

The limewash is applied by hand and developed until the desired color and movement are achieved.

Limewash can be kept light and quiet or developed into deeper, earthier tones.

I prefer to look at the actual room before settling on a color. Natural light, flooring, cabinetry, stone and furnishings can all change the way a color reads.

Can limewash go over painted walls?

Depending on the existing surface, yes. The wall needs to be evaluated and properly prepared before the limewash is applied.

Can you match a color?

Color can be adjusted with mineral pigments and samples can be developed to work with your room, furnishings and lighting.
