Not every wall needs to be replaced.

A damaged section can often be repaired while keeping the surrounding wall or ceiling intact.

Plaster and drywall repairs require more than simply filling a hole. The damaged area needs to be properly prepared, rebuilt and finished so the repair becomes part of the existing surface.

With older homes, that can mean working with the original wood lath and plaster system. With newer construction, it may mean repairing a damaged section of drywall and leaving it ready for paint.

I handle both types of repair, with the approach determined by the existing construction and the condition of the surrounding surface.

Historic plaster

Repairs to traditional wood-lath plaster walls and ceilings, including localized failures, missing sections and damaged areas.

Drywall

Small and large drywall patches for walls and ceilings, finished ready for painting.

Finish matching

Texture and surface character are considered so the repaired area works with the existing wall.

What I Repair

Plaster when it's plaster. Drywall when it's drywall.

The repair method follows the construction that's already there.

Historic Plaster Repair

For older homes with traditional plaster over wood lath, repairs are built back into the existing system rather than simply covering the damaged area.

  • Wall and ceiling patches
  • Loose or failed plaster
  • Localized plaster damage
  • Plaster crack repairs
  • Veneer plaster finish

Drywall Repair

From small holes to larger damaged sections, drywall repairs are rebuilt, taped and finished so the surface is ready for paint.

  • Damaged drywall sections
  • Ready-for-paint finish
Historic Plaster

Rebuilding a plaster repair from the base up.

When the original construction is worth preserving, the repair should work with that construction.

01

Assess the damage

The failed area is opened and examined to determine what remains sound and what needs to be rebuilt.

02

Stabilize the base

Loose material and compromised areas are stabilized. Wood lath can be repaired or replaced where necessary.

03

Build the patch

Mesh and appropriate plaster materials are used to rebuild the damaged section and connect it to the surrounding surface.

04

Blend the finish

The final plaster surface is brought into the surrounding field so the repair reads as part of the existing wall or ceiling.
