Tadelakt is a traditional Moroccan lime plaster renowned for its seamless, waterproof, and sculptural finish. As you watch the installation on the left, you're witnessing centuries-old Moroccan techniques applied with modern precision. Tadelakt isn't just waterproof—it's a living surface that breathes, creating healthier bathroom environments free of mold and mildew.
We begin with meticulous waterproofing of the substrate. Unlike standard walls, shower surfaces require specialized preparation to ensure complete water resistance and long-term durability.
Using specialized trowels, we apply multiple layers of Tadelakt plaster in a continuous, seamless manner. Each layer is worked until it achieves the perfect density and texture.
Once the plaster reaches the right consistency, we compress the surface with polished stones or steel trowels. This critical step begins the waterproofing process and creates Tadelakt's signature sheen.
The surface is then sealed with pure olive oil soap, which reacts with the lime to create calcium stearate—a natural, waterproof barrier that allows the plaster to breathe while repelling water.
After the soap application, we burnish the surface to a smooth, marble-like finish. The Tadelakt then cures for several days, developing its full water-resistant properties.
When properly installed, Tadelakt creates a seamless, water-resistant surface ideal for showers, steam rooms, and wet areas.
Unlike tiles with grout lines, Tadelakt allows walls to breathe while repelling water, preventing mold and mildew growth.
